The screenshot above is 100% accurate. Frankly it’s a symptom of ignorance or deception that anyone could possibly believe otherwise.
If human self sufficiency were possible we would have never developed language. The whole reason mammals did is because we care for our young which inexorably leads via interdependence, to the dominant life form on earth: Culture.
Ants deployed a genetic form of culture and are the most successful insect on the planet as a result. Humans however developed a memetic form. Which has infinitely more flexibility, adaptivity, and speed.
Lizards and fish can be self sufficient (in so far as anything inside an ecosystem can be called that) but the trade-off is they live in a hellish death world of 1000s of young sprayed on the rocks hoping one or two live. That’s a Pyrrhic victory if ever I saw one. Personally I’d rather die making heaven than live in hell.
Lizards bought survival at the price of living. While mammals on the other hand get to go to the stars while living in great comfort. (Though currently we lack the political will to do so. FALGSC now!)
A human trying to be totally self sufficient is pathology. It’s literally anti social, or put another way, sociopathic. You get either delusions and hypocrisy, as in Ayn Rand, or psychosis as in Ted Kaczynski. At best you get obsessive chasing of diminishing returns, as in “survivalists” who spend their entire isolated lives preparing for a handful of hypothetical scenarios while being completely maladapted to the actual one.
The term itself “financial self sufficiency” is logically absurd in that the entire concept of money requires interdependence. Money is only money if it has value to someone else. Money can only exist as part of a culture, but by definition culture is the insufficiency of self. Being a citizen in a culture is to be an organ in the body politic. A liver can’t be self sufficient, but it can be an indispensable part of Bruce Lee.
